Makalu Base Camp Trek

We will have a morning breakfast, and the whole day we will be visiting major sightseeing sites of Kathmandu with our tour guide. You can visit Pashupatinath Temple, Swyambhunath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa and Royal Kathmandu Durbar Square. To be prepared for the next day trek, we recommend you to rest in the evening. Have dinner and stay overnight in the same hotel.

After morning breakfast, we take a flight to Tumlingtar from Kathmandu. This 40-minutes flight offers you scenic views of the mountains such as Ganesh Himal, Mt. Everest, Makalu, and Mt. Kanchenjunga. As you reach Tumlingtar and after some rest, you can begin the official trek from Tumlingtar to Khadbari, which is situated at an elevation of 1025 meters. During your trek, you will follow the route of Kumal village to the Khadbari amid the sub-tropical forest of Sal tree (Shorea-Robusta) and farm fields along the way. The further trek will take us to Khadbari, the principal town of Makalu region, where you can explore the Mani Bhanjyang. Have dinner and stay overnight at the guest house of Khadbari.

Have morning breakfast and continue trek onwards Chichira by following the few flat then ascending trails to the ridge until you reach the Bhotebas. A further trail through the beautiful fertile land and the forested path takes you to Chichira village. As you enter this beautiful village, you can encounter the local settlements and have superb scenic views of the mountains of Mt. Makalu and Kumbakarna range. Have dinner and stay overnight at Chichira.

On this day, we will have a morning breakfast and continue the trek through the calm and serene forest of rhododendron, oaks, and hemlocks as we climb to the top of the ridge. After reaching the top of the ridge, we will continue almost downhill for two hours to the Num village, where you can explore the village and a primary school on the large flat ground and have stunning views of the valley. Have dinner and stay overnight at Num.

Have morning breakfast and begin the steep trek down on the terraced slopes towards the Arun River, nearly 800 meters below. You can see that these lower slopes of this narrow valley are densely forested and the paths are quite slippery, so you have to be conscious while trekking. On the way, we will also cross the beautiful suspension bridge over the Arun River. Then we will climb further, following the beautiful forest until we finally reach the Seduwa village, where you can visit a small health post and a primary school over there. Have dinner and stay overnight in the Seduwa.

Have a morning breakfast and begin trek with the pleasant, comfortable and short trek, which takes about 3-4 hours to reach Tashi gaon, at an elevation of 2200 meters. As you continue, the trek will follow beautiful farm villages, and then continue gradually uphill until you finally reach Tashi Gaon. Have dinner and stay overnight at Tashi Gaon.

On this day, after having a morning breakfast, we will begin our trek following several human settlements on the way. The trek will follow through the refreshing beautiful shade of the rhododendron, oaks forest, where you can encounter the wild animals on the way. The further trek will follow the strenuous uphill climb until we finally reach the Khongma Danda, at an altitude of 3500 meters. Have dinner and stay overnight at Khongma Danda.

On this day we will have morning breakfast and begin our journey onwards to Mumbuk, which is situated at the elevation of 3400 meters. As we continue trekking, we will have great views of snowcapped mountains and the surrounding landscapes. We will follow a gradual trail with several ups and downs and follow through the beautiful Thulo Pokhari (big pond) and Sano Pokhari (small lake) on the way. You can also witness heavy snowfall and reach Keke La pass (4230m) where you can observe various stunning mountains. After exploration, you will continue downhill trek back to vegetation, the woods of pines, hemlock, birch and rhododendrons and finally reach Mumbuk. Have dinner and stay overnight at Mumbuk.

Today, we will have morning breakfast and continue trek by descending the trail through a narrow wooden valley and cross the Barun Khola just situated at beyond Tamatan Kharka. We will need around 6 to 7 hours to reach today’s destination. Then the trail goes along the beautiful Barun Khola, passes several seasonal settlements of Yangri Kharka and eventually arrives at Nehe Kharka. Have dinner and stay overnight at Nehe Kharka.

Today, after early morning breakfast, we will continue the trek crossing through the beautiful wooden bridge over the Barun River. On the way, you will trek through the boulders, where you can witness massive prayer walls, a forest of the rhododendron, barberries, cotoneaster and juniper bushes. This pleasant trek will continue to Sherson, and find the lower Barun glacier with views of stunning towering peaks such as Mt. Makalu. The further climb through the number of stone enclosures will bring you to Sherson at an elevation of 4600m, from where we can have striking views of Makalu south face, and Mt. Baruntse. Have dinner and stay overnight in Sherson.

After having a morning breakfast, we will begin our pleasing trek to Makalu Base Camp for stunning views of the mountains. We will have the most scenic walk with the closer view of Mt. Makalu, Barun Pokhari and also the majestic view of Everest, and the Kangshung face of Lhotse. After about one-hour gradual trek through a spectacular large meadow, we finally arrive at Sherson, from where we can have a greater view of the mentioned peaks. After exploring, you will return to the camp for overnight. Have dinner at Sherson.

After early morning breakfast, we will start the trek with a wonderful exploration of the surrounding valley. The further trek will take us to the end of the Barun valley named Yak Kharka. Today we have to trek around 6 or 7 hours to reach our destination. Have dinner and stay overnight at Yangri Kharka.

Have a morning breakfast and begin trek ahead to Mumbuk, which is situated at the elevation of 3400 meters. The further trek will follow several ups and down by passing the beautiful Barun Valley. You have to trek around 5 to 6 hours to reach Mumbuk by following the alpine forest.  As you reach Mumbuk, you can stroll around and explore the valley. Have dinner and stay overnight at Mumbuk.

After having morning breakfast, we will start trekking by following the Mumbuk village and retrace through the beautiful surroundings on the way. Today, we will hike around 5-6 hours back to Khongma Danda  (ridge) and explore Shipton-la and Thulo Pokhari, before we reach Khongma Danda. As you reach Khongma Danda, you can have stunning views of the Himalayas and the valley below. Have dinner and stay overnight in Khongma Danda.

On this day, we will have early morning breakfast and continue our trek towards Navagaun, which is situated at an elevation of 2500 meters. Today, we will trek back to Tashi gaon and continue to walk towards Navagaun on the upper trail for another 2 to 3 hours through the cool shade of the beautiful forest. After crossing the forest, we will enter the farm terraces and eventually the village of Navagaun. Navagaun is a famous Sherpa village, where you can interact with the Sherpa people and observe their unique culture and tradition. Have dinner and stay overnight in the guest house of Navagaun.

Have a morning breakfast and continue trek to Num by following the downhill track through farm fields. The further trek will lead us to the Seduwa village. As we reach the Seduwa village, we will explore the village and proceed ahead to Num after 2 to 3 hours of downhill trek. Have dinner and stay overnight in the Num village.

Today we continue the trek after having morning breakfast. You will see several villages on the way and people to encounter with. The trekking trail will be uphill around 2 to 3 hours, and the further trek will take us to the top of the ridge, and we will again continue the trek ahead almost downhill and reach to Chichira. As you reach over there, you can explore the village. Have dinner and stay overnight in the guesthouse at Chichira.

After having morning breakfast, we will begin our trek back to Khadbari by following the pleasant trekking trail. Around 5 to 6 hours trek will follow beautiful greenery forest, farmlands, and several local villages on the way and reach Khadbari. Khadbari is a large village, where you can encounter native people and observe their unique cultures and traditions. Have dinner and stay overnight in at Khadbari.

Have morning breakfast and continue trek onwards to Tumlingtar, which is situated at an altitude of 400 meters. Today is our last day of the trek. Around 3 to 4 hours trek will take us to Tumlingtar by following a downhill trek. Several up and down trails will bring you back to Tumlingtar. As you reach Tumlingtar, you can stroll around the village and explore the village. Have dinner and stay overnight in Tumlingtar.

Have morning breakfast and take a scenic flight for Kathmandu from Tumlingtar. After the flight, you will be dropped to the hotel, where you can take rest and relax. Have dinner with our team and stay overnight in the same hotel at Kathmandu.

You can either rest and relax at the hotel or explore around Thamel. In the evening, you can enjoy a farewell dinner with a typical Nepali cultural program for celebrating the successful completion of the journey in Nepali. Stay overnight at the same hotel.

Today is the last day of the Makalu Base Camp in Nepal. On this day, after your morning breakfast, one of the representatives will drop you to the airport, 3 hours before your flight. Wish you a safe trip for your homeland. We hope to see you again in Nepal!
