Tibet Holy Sky Lake Tour (17 Days)

Have an early breakfast, and take a flight to Lhasa, which is situated at an elevation of 3658 meters. As you reach Lhasa, you will be transferred to your hotel in Lhasa. In the evening, you can stroll around Lhasa town with our guide. Have dinner and stay overnight in the hotel.

Have an early breakfast and explore Lhasa with our tour guide. You will visit the famous Drepung monastary on Gambo Utse Mountain, Sera monastery, Songtsan Gampo, Pabonka hermitage, and many more. After sightseeing, you will return to the hotel where you can take a rest and relax. You will have dinner with us and stay overnight at the hotel.

Early in the morning have breakfast. Today you can stroll around the famous Potala Palace and explore the alluring monumental structures found in all of Tibet. You will also explore the Jokhang Temple, which is located in Barkhor square in Lhasa. Here you can also go shopping for various goods and souvenirs you may need in the days ahead. After that, you can also visit Pilgrims, Barkhor, and Ramoche monastery. After sightseeing, you will return to the hotel and have dinner. Stay overnight in the same hotel.

Have an early breakfast and a journey by road to Yamdrok Lake, which is situated at an elevation of 4442 meters. As you continue on the journey ahead, you can enjoy witnessing Gyantse Himalayas and pass through the Kamba la (4794 m) and the Karo la passes (5010 m). These amazing passes will also provide you stunning views of the mountains and surrounding. You will also get chances to explore the Kamba la, and Yamdrok Lake, a holy turquoise-colored lake with the spectacular surrounding. If you have enough time to explore, then you can visit Samding monastery near the lakeshore. After exploration, you will have dinner with us and stay overnight in the Gyantse.

Have an early breakfast and continue your trek to Shigatse, which is situated at an elevation of 3836 meters. As you begin your journey, you will visit Gyantse, a mid-sized town in the southwest of Lhasa and then continue your trek with stunning views of the Gyantse Dzong or Gyantse Castle, which was once used as the residence of the Gyantse Kings. You will also explore the famous Pelkor Chode and Kumbum Stupa, the largest Mandala (Buddhism cosmos) shaped stupa at the north end of town. After exploration, you will continue the journey towards Shigatse, where you will explore a small Shalu Monastery. After exploration of the monasteries, you will head towards Shigatse for the night. Have dinner with us and stay overnight in Shigatse.

Have an early breakfast and continue our drive to the western Himalayas. Along the way, we will explore the famous Tso-La pass (4500 m) and Gyatso-La pass (5252 m) with the greatest view in the world: Mt. Everest along with its surroundings. Then onward, the journey will pass scenic valleys, Rocky Mountains, and finally reach Rongbuk (Rongphu) Monastery, from where we can enjoy a fabulous view of Mt. Everest. With the stunning mountain views, you will spend your night at Rongbuk.

After breakfast, you can explore the old monasteries with amazing views of the sunrise over Mount Everest, then continue driving along the world’s highest mountains. You will continue your driving journey with magnificent views of the mountains. After reaching the main road, drive up to the high mountain passes with a great view of the Himalayas and then north to Peikutso Lake, an Alpine Lake. The remaining journey will take us to some small lakes and nomads camping with their yaks and sheep. Finally, crossing the beautiful Brahmaputra River you will reach the Chinese and Tibetan town called Saga. Have dinner and stay overnight in Saga.

Today after having breakfast, we will continue your trek ahead to Darchen, at an elevation of 4575 meters. You will drive through, following the wide and beautiful valley along a scenic river where you can witness animals such as yaks and sheep grazing. As we continue to drive towards the south, you can witness sand dunes, the Rocky Mountains, and stunning snow-capped peaks. The rest of the journey to the west will have a stunning sight of Holy Lake mansarovar and Mt. Kailash. With amazing views of mountains, you will reach Darchen. Have dinner and stay overnight in Darchen.

After having breakfast, you will continue the journey ahead by following some beautiful rocky cliffs with amazing views of the Mt. Kailash. You will pass the stone piled pass with colorful prayer flags, sky burial sites, and the famous Tarpoche Flagpole, until you reach Lha Chu valley. As you reach Lha Chu Valley, you can explore the small monastery called Chugu, which has the meditation cave of the Tibetan Great Yogi Melaripa. After exploration, we cross the beautiful bridge below the monastery. Both sides of this canyon are steep, rocky Mountains which represent Bodhisattvas. As you reach Mount Kailash, you can explore the famous Dirapuk Monastery which represents “Rigsum Gonpo” in Tibetan, as well as the Manjushri, Avalokiteshvara and Vajrapani monasteries.  Have dinner and stay overnight at the base of the Mount Kailash Trek.

Today, after having breakfast, you will continue the journey with an amazing view of Mt. Kailash. With the stunning view, we will trek ahead across the valley and reach Dolma-La Pass, which is situated at an elevation of 5650 m above sea level.  Today’s trek is tough even though the prayer flags at the mountain pass bring positive energy and excitement to the summit access. As you reach Dolma La Pass, you can have an amazing view of the Mountains. After exploration, you will trek ahead to Zuthal Puk. Have dinner and stay overnight in Zuthal Puk.

After having breakfast, we will continue to trek ahead by following one of the clearest rivers you have ever seen. With the views of stunning snow mountain called Nemo Nani (altitude 7728 m), and Mt. Kailash, you will reach Lake Mansarovar – one of the highest freshwater lakes in the world. As you reach the Lake, you will see that the lake is full of fish and swans. Not only that, but you will also explore Holy Mt. Kailash, Mt. Gurula-Mandala, and Lake Rashekshi that surround Mansarovar. You can also explore the Rakshas Tal lake and Chiu Monastery, a small monastery located upper on a hillside. Have dinner and stay overnight in Lake Mansarovar.

Today, have breakfast and begin the journey back to Lhasa by following the China-Nepal border. During your journey, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Himalaya range. You can enjoy the sight of a flock of yaks or sheep along the way.  With impressive views of the beautiful lake, snow, and the golden glow of the sunset, you will reach Saga. Have dinner and stay overnight in Saga.

Today after having breakfast, you will continue your driving tour of the Himalayas and enjoy great views of Mt. Shishapangma and other snowy peaks. Then continue to ascend up to Gongtang La pass, the last highest point of this trip. The experience of standing at an elevation of 5300 m / 17400 ft and having amazing views of the surroundings and valley below is unexplainable. Then afterwards you will continue by following the desert-like grassland along a beautiful forest. Finally, the remaining drive will take us to the Kyirong, at an elevation of 2800 meters, where you can explore Pakba Monastery.  Have dinner and stay overnight at a guesthouse in Kyirong.

After having breakfast, you will continue your trek ahead to Shigatse. Around 23 km of driving will take you to the border between China and Nepal. As you continue your trek wearing Nepali costume, cross the bridge and finally reach Rasuwa Gadhi town, the border of Nepal. The guide will help you with the border formalities on the side of China. You will also have time to explore Langtang National Park, stunning snowy peaks, farm terrains, and another natural wonders during your trek back to Kathmandu. Some prefer to return to Lhasa Shigatse via Old Tingri. On the way back to Shigatse, you can witness Peikutso Lake with stunning views of the mountains including Mt. Shishapangma, Mt. Cho Oyu, and another close vicinity.  Have dinner and stay overnight in Shigatse.

Today after having breakfast, you will continue to drive on the friendship highway for approximately 80 km and explore Yundrunling Monastery, the biggest Bonpo monastery in Tibet.  After exploration of Yundrunling Monastery, we will return to Lhasa. After some rest, you will have a farewell dinner with typical local cultural programming to celebrate the successful accomplishment of the Tibet Holy Sky Lake Tour.
