Langtang Region Trips and Itineraries Langtang is a narrow valley located just south of the Tibetan border. This mountainous region is populated by Tamang whose religious practices, language, and costumes are very close to the Tibetans. This valley is full of villages to explore, small peaks to climb and glaciers to discover at moderate elevations. Helambu, about 75 km from Kathmandu, is a Sherpa region. The language, culture, and traditional costume of the Sherpa’s of Helambu are very different from those of the Sherpas of Solu Khumbu. Helambu, easily accessible, attracts a large number of tourists.
